Final Thoughts

Well, here I am at the end of my journey. There were some frustrating moments at the beginning (kept forgetting what password I had used), but once I got motivated, I started to motor along. I did learn some new things and I am now addicted to viewing funny cat videos on YouTube, but overall, I'm glad I persevered...knowledge is always a good thing.

Thing #23

Well, when it came to ebooks/audiobooks I didn't really see anything that I was particularly interested in...I still like my 'hard copy' books, but maybe some day. I recently was reading about the Kindle (hand held wireless machine with the printed page displayed) and I thought this was a cool idea...maybe one day soon in a library near you?

Thing #22

Podcasts...didn't work out very well for me...I found it frustrating...I couldn't find anything I was interested in...not very user friendly.

Thing #21

Ahhh, YouTube...after amusing myself with funny cat videos,(poor Nancy and Cathy out at Circ were wondering what I kept laughing at back here at the computer), I did try to find something with the word "library" in it..."Library Prank" was cute...it seems that humour drives many of the videos...controversy the other popular theme - not really sure about its library applications though.

Thing #20

Of course I had to ask a question pertaining to Canadian requirements for registering marriages performed in Hawaii. I loved this service-I imagine it would be great for someone who was computer literate but maybe not able to navigate the net (I'm thinking of someone like my mother!), but I would love to use this again!

Thing #19

I found this assignment fun! Had to tear myself away from looking up info I was interested in! Thought it would be a great place for patrons...I found what I was looking for and thought it was all easy to use.

Thing #18

Office 2007...loved the demos...I reviewed how to do tables in Word and realized how dull my documents have been...I vow to use more tables now that that it seems more user friendly to set them up and modify them. I would love to go back here and spend some more time looking at demos because sometimes you think you know how to do something and discover a new way!

Well, I seemed to have some issues with the calendar exercise...I recently had Systems update something that's been wrong since I've had an email account, so I'm not sure if it's just me, but I don't seem to have any action when it comes to the calendar! I did the exercises, but I can't seem to set up meetings and when I accessed the shared calendar, there was no information there for me to see. So, as for using it, obviously I won't be partaking until I figure out why I can't.

I thought email was pretty common sense stuff so reviewing it was kind of dull, but the phishing was scary...I really had no idea what this looked like so I loved the exampl! Hopefully, now I could spot a 'lure' if I saw one!

We have a cute little wiki...entered a "hello" and contributed a book to the favorite book list (Shadow of the Wind by Ruis Zafon).

Thing 14

Wikis...love that it's based on a Hawaiian word...love the idea of the ease of use...I use Wikipedia all the time, but obviously with the idea of "don't always believe everything you read." Library use: not really sure of it's usefulness here.

I read them all...I'm not sure if I should be terrified or excited...as libraries change, I wonder how it will effect my role as an assistant?

Thing 12

I absolutely love Common Craft videos and I wish there was one for every new thing I had to learn! Anyway, it seems so great (the networking idea) but I watch my 16 year old daughter use it and it appears to mostly be a popularity contest with the occasional excitement of hearing from someone from the past.

Thing 11

Interesting I guess, but I spend no time reading other people's blogs.

Re: Del.icio.us...interesting place - their screen set up a bit confusing at first/boring but once I got the idea, I could see it could be useful for research...but not really for me right now!
